The Madeleine Socks

Since 2020, I’ve been captivated by a dainty cable pattern that looks like batter poured into a pan. My latest knitting pattern using those cables is the Madeleine Socks, and it’s now available.

These cuff-down socks use the classic Madeleine stitch motif down the front and back panels of the socks. The socks are graded to five sizes and feature a heel flap with gusset for a customizable fit. They’re finished off with a wedge toe.

I knit the sample shown here in Farmer’s Daughter Fibers Mayhem Sport (80% superwash merino, 20% nylon, 328 yds/300 m per 3.5 oz/100 g)

You'll need one set of needles for your preferred style of small-circumference knitting in a size to match gauge listed above (suggested needle size: US 1.5 /2.5 mm), as well as one stitch marker for beginning of round; optional additional markers between pattern repeats; and a tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

This is an intermediate pattern, and it utilizes cabling, decreases, knitting in the round, and stockinette stitch grafting.

The Madeleine Mitts and The Madeleine Hat DK also use this cable motif, so you can match your accessories together!
