4 Reasons I Recommend Round Toes for Newer Sock Knitters

A horizontal photo taken from the top-down showing how three pairs of handknit socks with textured heels are laid out flat on a white countertop. On the left is a pink pair, with a cream pair in the middle, and a light green pair on the right.

Why I Use Textured Heels in My Sock Knitting

How to Knit a Star Toe (Toe Up and Cuff Down)

Three pairs of pastel handknit socks are laid out on a white marble countertop next to a teacup full of milky tea and an antique book. A little tape measure is spooled out across their toes.

How to Knit Socks that Fit Perfectly Every Time

A side-by-side comparison of two swatches knit in a soft purple yarn. The swatch on the left shows a round toe knit from the cuff down using decreases for the shaping. The right swatch shows a round toe knit from the toe up using increases for the shaping.

How to Knit a Round Toe Two Ways: Toe Up and Cuff Down

A top-down image of a finished sock knit from a sock blank, a sock in progress, the sock blank itself, some pink and cream roses, and some antique paper ephemera.

How to Knit Socks from a Sock Blank

A flatlay photo of a pair of plain handknit socks. The socks are knit in a softly variegated pink and cream yarn, with contrasting cuff and toes in darker pink. The toes point to the right. The socks are surrounded by greenery, white flowers, and a white teacup filled with milky Earl Grey.

    My Vanilla Sock Recipe

A sideways photo of five balls of yarn in light blue, pale pink, white, a warm tan, and a cool tan. They are surrounded by dusty miller and a white teacup filled with coffee. The balls of yarn are in the middle of the photo, with dusty miller in the foreground and background, and the teacup slightly blurred in the background.

How to Choose the Best Sock Yarn

A white, caramel, and mint striped sock toe is laid flat with small balls of mint and caramel yarn behind it. The sock is knit on double-pointed needles.

By that definition, I myself am not knitworthy. Anyway, hope this version of the shawl has a better fate than the previous two!

A quick introduction for all the new friends who’v A quick introduction for all the new friends who’ve made their way here over the last few months! Welcome, and I’m so glad you’re here. I’m Lauren. I design knitting patterns with a focus on accessories. Socks are my special love.

I live in a funny little beach city in Southern California with my husband and our elementary schooler. You won’t see their faces around here, but just know that they are always nearby and I would not be the creator I am without them.

I took up knitting in my first semester of law school to cope with stress. That was back in the fall of 2007. After three years of law school and almost eight years of practice, I hung up my suits and stepped into the classroom. I spent seven wonderful years teaching law to highschoolers at the same high school where I was once a student.

But our school district is shrinking and last year, it became pretty clear that it could no longer sustain my program. I decided to pivot again and take my knitting pattern business full-time. In the six months since, I’ve had a lot of fun experimenting with different forms of content, connecting with new people, and leaning into my creativity.

When I’m not designing or creating knitting content, I love puttering about in my rose garden, hunting for sea glass at the beach with my kid, wandering through museums and libraries, taking pictures of cute old houses, devouring romance novels, and looking for spots of beauty and joy everywhere I possibly can.
This is something that genuinely just occurred to This is something that genuinely just occurred to me this morning, and now I’m really wondering! How do interactions between knitters and knitting pattern designers differ from interactions between two knitters who aren’t designers? Is there a meaningful difference? And if so, how does that affect the way we engage with each other on social platforms?
