A brown, lacy, handknit sweater in progress rests on a pink wingback chair with a vintage quilt draped over the back of it.

Yes, This Is Your Grandma’s Knitting

Three pairs of handknit socks--one pink with a round toe, one white with a wedge toe, and one gray with a star toe--are laid out on a white dresser top with some antique books in the background.

4 Reasons I Recommend Round Toes for Newer Sock Knitters

A white woman's hands hold a handknit sock in progress on a pair of long circular needles. The sock is being knit using the magic loop method with a skein of handdyed yarn that has lavender and yellow speckles.

Can You Use Summer Yarns in Patterns Designed for Wool?

Two pink socks with blue cuffs, heels, and toes are laid out on a white marble countertop. The right sock is still on the needles and needs a finished toe. There is a gold and white cup full of tea and a vintage doily next to the socks.

A folded stack of blue and tan knit tops sits on a faded floral sofa cushion.

12 Things I Wish I Knew Before Knitting with Silk or Linen Yarns

A pile of several different project bags full of knitting stacked on a white dresser.

Weekend knitting time! I’ve got some fun adventu Weekend knitting time! I’ve got some fun adventures ahead today but it’s always good to start with some yarn.
Get ready! My first shawl release in almost a year Get ready! My first shawl release in almost a year is coming next month. The Thalassic Shawl was originally published in Cast On Magazine a couple years ago, and I’ve been sitting on this pattern ever since. It’s time to share it.

This is an asymmetric triangle shawl knit with a combo of fingering-weight wool and lace-weight mohair for warmth but not weight. You can sub a single strand of DK-weight yarn but it will make for a denser, heavier fabric. Siri alpaca can be a good sub for the mohair if mohair is itchy for you but you want to preserve the lightness.

Yarn support for this design was kindly provided by @hedgehogfibres.
I’ve been knitting for almost 18 years now, and I’ve been knitting for almost 18 years now, and my relationship with my craft has ebbed and flowed a lot over those years.

I’ve spent the last seven designing knitting patterns, which introduced a whole new dynamic to my knitting practice.

Letting go of these three things helped so much.
Whoever said handknit socks don’t grow on trees Whoever said handknit socks don’t grow on trees was seriously disturbed.
