A Bee In The Bonnet

Author: Lauren Rad

I'm a former lawyer turned knitwear designer who designs soft, romantic patterns for knitters who want a brief escape from the everyday. When I'm not knitting, you can usually find me puttering about in my rose garden, hosting tea parties, or collecting sea glass at the beach.
Four gray mitered squares sit on top of a lace doily next to a yellow rose, a teacup full of milky tea, some antique books, and two neutral-colored balls of yarn.

4 Ways to Knit a Mitered Square (and When to Use Each One)

A top-down photo showing two swatches, one with the floats cut and one with the floats intact (the white swatch on the bottom). They're surrounded by more yarn, some metal knitting needles, a silver trinket box, a pink rose, and a seed stitch swatch knit flat.

Speed Swatching for Knitters: Accurate Gauge in Less Time

A cluster of pale peach roses with many petals blooms in the center of the photo surrounded by lots of bright greenery.

Two Tips for Rose Care in Cooler Months

A half-finished knit scarf with tan and white stripes sits on a driftwood log at the beach. Blurred in the background is lots of sand and some soft blue waves.

Knitting with Alpaca Yarn: What to Know Before You Cast On

A top-down photo of a pile of pink and cream knit accessories with a gray swatch in the middle. All of the knit items have bobbles on them, including the swatch.

Three Different Ways to Knit Bobbles

A top-down photo showing a white woman's hands knitting a partially finished sock in cream yarn. Spread on the table in the background are the many pages of a relatively simple knitting pattern.

Why Knitting Patterns Cost So Much

Three white shelves full of books, some vintage and antique, some new. There's also a blue and white Wedgewood Jasperware vase, a hunk of coral, and a blue onion-printed cookie jar.

Book Collecting for Regular People

A top-down photo where a white stoneware pitcher full of metal and wooden knitting needles sits on a desk surrounded by pastel mini skeins of yarn and a couple knitting projects in progress on metal and plastic needles.

How to Pick the Right Knitting Needle Material for Your Project

A white woman's left arm reaches out in front of a gray stucco wall. Her hand is full of roses in varying shades of pink, coral, and yellow.
