Collab post: I usually design with light and airy Collab post: I usually design with light and airy colors, but it’s fun to change things up a bit. I’ve heard so many knitters over the years talk about how hard it is to knit with dark colors, so I thought I’d test that out with my eyes that are now almost 20 years older than when I started knitting.

And while I did occasionally have some spots where I had to shine my phone flashlight directly onto my work, the truth is, I didn’t find it that much more challenging than knitting with any other yarn. A few simple adjustments can make all the difference.

Knitting with dark yarn doesn’t have to be a nightmare. As they say, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. These tips and tricks will have you happily stitching along with your dark yarn in no time.

Many thanks to @expressionfiberarts for providing support for this design project! I’m excited to share the patterns with you soon.
I didn’t pick up knitting because I wanted to lear I didn’t pick up knitting because I wanted to learn how to knit socks. In fact, for the first decade, I only knit a few pairs.

But somewhere along the way, I fell in love with socks. I’ve now knit so many pairs that I’ve actually lost count. Some I’ve given away. Others I’ve worn to shreds. Some are carefully protected design samples. All of them are special.

If you’re a fan of sock knitting, too, I’d love to hear about how you fell in love with this special corner of the knitting world.
I used to feel so guilty about lingering unfinishe I used to feel so guilty about lingering unfinished projects. While my tendency to get distracted by shiny objects can be a problem in some areas of life, though, it turns out it doesn't matter all that much with fiber arts.

Because yarn doesn't have an expiration date. It can sit for ages, and so long as I've stored it properly, it'll be just fine whenever I pull it out again.

If a project just doesn't feel right, it can go in timeout for a while. Sometimes even a long while. I do generally come back around to things eventually, and I figure there's no point in imposing artificial deadlines on my hobby when there are enough real deadlines in the rest of my life.

How about you? Do you feel guilt for having unfinished projects that are lingering, or have you come to peace with the ebbs and flows of the creative process?

P.S. - This gorgeous @brownsheepco Lamb's Pride Worsted looks as good as it did when I packed it away 16 years ago.
Collab post: I’ve got two designs coming for you i Collab post: I’ve got two designs coming for you in this gorgeous yarn, and I’m so excited to share more about them soon! When @expressionfiberarts asked if I was interested in doing something with their holiday colorway, I jumped at the chance to try my hand at working with some yarn that’s outside my normal wheelhouse: dark and moody with more variegation than I usually use.

And listen, I don’t wanna toot my own horn, but I think the finished results turned out pretty great. Stay tuned for more on that very soon.
