A Bee In The Bonnet

Month: January 2023

The Grandmillennial Shawl is draped around a white dressmaker's form. It's a seed stitch shawl in an asymmetrical triangle shape that has a ruffled edge. The ruffles are made from a creamy silk-mohair blend, while the body of the yarn is knit in a luxurious DK-weight cahmere-merino yarn from Purl Soho.

A Fun Freebie: The Grandmillennial Shawl

An ornate, antique teacup with pink flowers painted on it sits on a matching coaster. It's full of one of my favorite teas, Harney & Sons' Vanilla Comoro. In the background is a mitered square blanket made of lots of pastel yarns and a vase full of pink and white hyacinths and baby's breath.

January Sip and Stitch: Mitered Squares, Grocery Store Teas, and Pirates Ahoy!

A young woman with light brown hair grins while holding a coffee cup near a window. Teresa has soft bangs that fall across her forehead and a happy, relaxed demeanor.

Four Tips to Keep Knit Shawls from Slipping

A pair of pale pink socks with tiny cables and a short-row heel are laid out flat on a gray surface. The toes are pointing to the right. The socks are surrounded by antique paper ephemera, old books, and white roses.

New Pattern Release: The Seaward Flow Socks

A top-down image of a pair of pink socks, a light blue hat, and a pair of green socks all laid flat on a white marble countertop. They're surrounded by tiny yellow roses and a white teacup full of tea.

Beach knitting season is well and truly upon us! D Beach knitting season is well and truly upon us! Do you take your knits to the beach, too?

A lot of people ask me if I’m worried about sand getting in my knits, and that question always makes me laugh. I’m not worried. They’re washable!
If you told me to put away my knitting for several If you told me to put away my knitting for several months because it was just too hot, things would not work out well for any of us. I’ve spent a lot of time over the years refining my summer knitting strategies, and I’m a big fan of socks for summertime.

Socks are small and compact, so I can throw them in a bag and take them anywhere. They’re lightweight, so they won’t affect my luggage limits. The small size means they won’t sit on my lap and legs and overheat me.

Listen, I know I sound like a broken record here, but I really do think knitting socks is the solution to most of life’s problems.
Every now and again, the debate over English versu Every now and again, the debate over English versus Continental style knitting pops up in some knitting corner of the Internet. I’ve always taken a very “you do you” approach to knitting, so I never understood the aggressive tone of some people’s commentary on this question.

Ultimately, I think all the various different knitting styles tell pretty cool stories about who we are, where we learned, and what we prefer in our knitting experiences. Remember: if it gets you the results you want without causing you injury, your approach is just fine.
Celebrating life’s surprises today with a specia Celebrating life’s surprises today with a special anniversary. Knitting helped me survive law school, the bar exam, nearly eight years of practicing law, and so much more. I’m grateful for this skill every day.

And happy anniversary to my law school friends, especially Section One!
