A Bee In The Bonnet

Author: Lauren Rad

I'm a former lawyer turned knitwear designer who designs soft, romantic patterns for knitters who want a brief escape from the everyday. When I'm not knitting, you can usually find me puttering about in my rose garden, hosting tea parties, or collecting sea glass at the beach.
A vintage dresser, made of dark wood with decorative handles, sits under a round framed painting. A brass candelabra, a silver mirror, and a framed photograph rest atop the dresser.

Monthly Sip and Stitch: Bedtime Chai

A white woman's hands, wearing a pair of grey hand knit fingerless mitts, are placed on a marble countertop. Above her fingers is a china teacup, a white rose, and a vintage book.

Design Tips for the Disorganized Knitwear Designer

A white hand knit hat with a pom-pom lays on a silver platter. Lacy doilies and sprigs of wildflowers surround the platter.

Moths in My Knitting

A blue china teacup with coffee in it sits on a lace doily. White and pink fabric, knit in garter stitch, lays next to it.

As a little girl, I loved Felicity’s bravery and As a little girl, I loved Felicity’s bravery and commitment to what she believed was the right thing to do. Now, as the mother of a 9-year-old girl, I’m horrified by how she snuck out in the dead of night to steal a horse. Child! What were you doing?!

Anyway. Here’s a fun look at what kind of knitting needles she would have been using to knit her socks.
Next in our series of picking the right knitting n Next in our series of picking the right knitting needles, we’re talking about material. These three are the most common materials for modern knitting needles, but as you’ll see in an upcoming video, there are other materials that have been used over the years.

What kind of material do you prefer for your knitting needles? What do you like about it?
Hope you have a bit of Saturday knitting planned f Hope you have a bit of Saturday knitting planned for today! I’m working on the edging of a new shawl design (not pictured, of course, but you’ll see more soon).
Say hello to your new favorite sock pattern! Illus Say hello to your new favorite sock pattern! Illustrated Couple is knit from the cuff down and has a round toe so there’s no grafting at the end.

Testers reported that the toe construction was comfy and that they enjoyed the mellow texture on the leg paired with the simple stockinette foot.

And as for me, well, I’ll probably just gaze adoringly at them for another day or two. Pattern release weekends are a nice chance to slow down and appreciate our work.
