This pattern is Day 8 of my 2024 Digital Advent Calendar.
Back before my daughter was born and before we had shared her name with anyone, some of my friends took to calling her “The Radling.” It was such a funny little nickname, but once everyone knew her real name, it kind of faded away.
We try to protect her privacy online, though, so we don’t share her name or face on public social media. When I decided I wanted to name a pattern for her, I had to get creative.
And so an old nickname was resurrected! I hope you enjoy this knit as much as I did.

Pattern Specs
Sizes: One size. Scarflet is 48″ (122 cm) long by 2.5″ (6.5 cm) wide. Size is adjustable.
Materials: 95 yds (87 m) of sport-weight yarn. Sample is shown knit in Blue Sky Fibers Baby Alpaca, 100% baby alpaca, 110 yds (101 m) per 1.25 oz (50 g)
Gauge: 4″ (10 cm) = 22 stitches and 32 rows in garter stitch after blocking
Needles: One set of 32″ (81 cm) circular needles in size to meet gauge above. Suggest needle size: US 4 (3.5 mm).
Tools: Darning needle to weave in loose ends.
Skill level: Adventurous beginner. Skills include long-tail cast-on, increases (KFB), and elastic bind-off.
Pattern Instructions
Using the long-tail cast-on method, cast on 184 stitches. Knit one row.
Increase row: Knit into the front and back of the first stitch, knit until one stitch remains, knit into the front and back of the final stitch. Turn.
Repeat the increase row 37 more times for a total of 38 repeats. You will have 260 stitches on your needles.
Bind off using the elastic bind-off. Weave in loose ends and block.
And that’s it! This simple, quick scarflet makes a great gift knit that you can finish in a day or two. I’ve already made three since my initial sample and can’t wait to make more. Happy stitching.

Hello, thank you for sharing this pattern. Question: Is every row after the knit row an increase row or do the knit and increase row continue to alternate? I suspect that each row after the 1st knit row is an increase otherwise it would be much wider? Thanks for your help.
Yep, you read it exactly right! Each row is an increase row, which also gives you that nice, sharp angle on the ends.

Hello, i stumbled upon this pattern after reading your article on silk and linen blends.
I have a silk/linen/cotton blend with changing colors and no idea what to do with it…It s fingering and i hate knitting with fingering lol but can t double it because of the ombre effect…Do you think this pattern would work ?
