A Bee In The Bonnet

Author: Lauren Rad

I'm a former lawyer turned knitwear designer who designs soft, romantic patterns for knitters who want a brief escape from the everyday. When I'm not knitting, you can usually find me puttering about in my rose garden, hosting tea parties, or collecting sea glass at the beach.
A flatlay photograph of two gray, handknit socks stretched on wire sock blockers. They have lacy bands around the legs and the toes are both pointing to the right. They're surrounded by peach roses and antique paper ephemera.

The Grandmillennial Shawl is draped around a white dressmaker's form. It's a seed stitch shawl in an asymmetrical triangle shape that has a ruffled edge. The ruffles are made from a creamy silk-mohair blend, while the body of the yarn is knit in a luxurious DK-weight cahmere-merino yarn from Purl Soho.

I’ve had these mini skeins for several years, and I’ve had these mini skeins for several years, and after a few test runs at different projects that didn’t work, I think I have finally figured out what I want to do with them. Many thanks to @emmacmakes for her excellent tutorial on how to crochet a moss stitch granny square! Yarn is from an advent calendar I bought from @playfuldayyarns, and while I’ve so enjoyed just hoarding the mini skeins and ogling them, I’m excited to use them finally, too.
The Fading Flowers Hat is here! This collaboration The Fading Flowers Hat is here! This collaboration with @seachangefibers has a cozy double brim, cute little bobble flowers, and a spiraling crown that is so satisfying.

Comment “bobbles” and I’ll send you a link to where you can get the pattern on Ravelry.
Sorry friends, but you’re gonna keep hearing me si Sorry friends, but you’re gonna keep hearing me singing the praises of blocking all of your knits until the cows come home (my fifth grade teacher would be so pleased to know that is still a regular part of my vocabulary).

Whenever I see knitters struggling with making their finished knit look more polished, the number one problem is that they aren’t blocking their knits. If you’re knitting with a natural fiber, giving your finished project a gentle steam or a soak in lukewarm water and then laying it flat to dry is a crucial part of helping the stitches settle into place.

Here is a visual demonstration of why just putting on the finished project and wearing it around won’t achieve the same results.
