A Bee In The Bonnet

Author: Lauren Rad

I'm a former lawyer turned knitwear designer who designs soft, romantic patterns for knitters who want a brief escape from the everyday. When I'm not knitting, you can usually find me puttering about in my rose garden, hosting tea parties, or collecting sea glass at the beach.
A pair of light blue-gray, textured socks is laid flat on a white marble countertop with some white hydrangea next to them. These socks are the Socktober 2020 Socks, a free sock knitting pattern.

A Total Beginner’s Guide to Knitting

A white shawl with gray and tan variegations is draped around the shoulders of a dressmaker's form. This is a head-on photograph that shows how the shawl would look when worn with the point draped toward the front of the body. You can see the seed stitch bands, lace, and tiny bobbles that make up the different textures of the shawl.

The Berry Scone Shawl, My Newest Knitting Pattern

A pink hat, knit in a lace design with a pompom, rests atop lace doiliers. A china teacup sits to its left, and a stack of books with a plate of cookies on top is to its right. Springs of wildflowers surround the hat.

Just a few days left until my first new shawl patt Just a few days left until my first new shawl pattern in years is released! I’m so excited to share this one with you all.

This project has been such a fun collaboration with my dear friend @aimeeshermakes, whose new Comfort Silk Linen yarn is the dream blend of 50% merino, 25% linen, and 25% silk. It’s the perfect fiber blend for lightweight summer knits, and it goes so well with the open work of this shawl’s stitch pattern.

Aimee and I will have a couple treats for you in our newsletters on Friday when this shawl comes out, so make sure you’re signed up for both of them!
I block everything always, and here’s a great exam I block everything always, and here’s a great example of why. This gorgeous @camelliafibercompany yarn transforms after a gentle soaking and laying flat to dry. No pins or wires or special blocking forms needed!
Please tell me I’m not the only one whose project Please tell me I’m not the only one whose project bags end up with random bits and bobs shoved in them. I know the whole point of a project bag is to protect my project from all of the other random bits and bobs floating around in my main bag, but sometimes things don’t go according to plan here.
A Continuous Smell of Steam gets its name from a p A Continuous Smell of Steam gets its name from a passage in North and South where Fanny Thornton complains about how noisy and smoky Milton is. An industrial city in the 1850s is probably not where you’d want to wear this delicate white shawl, but the color and stitch pattern reminded me of billowing steam. I couldn’t help myself.

The pattern for this shawl is coming on June 5. I used two skeins of @aimeeshermakes Comfort Silk Linen (kindly provided as part of our collaboration) to knit my sample and had enough left over that I may make a matching little scarflet.

Are you ready to cast on yet or do you still need to pick out your yarn?
