knitting design

A top-down photograph of a pair of gray-green socks with cable and seed stitch panels down the front and back. One sock still needs its toe grafted together. To the left of the socks is a canister of Tea Forte's Apricot Amaretto tea. It's a black canister with a tan label that has apricot-colored embellishments. A little tea is spilled across the counter to show its texture. To the right of the socks is a white teacup and saucer. The cup is full of Apricot Amaretto tea with milk. Small balls of snowball viburnum are scattered about the image.

The Grandmillennial Shawl is draped around a white dressmaker's form. It's a seed stitch shawl in an asymmetrical triangle shape that has a ruffled edge. The ruffles are made from a creamy silk-mohair blend, while the body of the yarn is knit in a luxurious DK-weight cahmere-merino yarn from Purl Soho.

A pair of pale pink socks with tiny cables and a short-row heel are laid out flat on a gray surface. The toes are pointing to the right. The socks are surrounded by antique paper ephemera, old books, and white roses.

A woman's small, plump hands are splayed slightly on a white countertop. They're wearing a pair of brown fingerless mitts with panels of coin lace and little bobbles down the back of the hands. Around them are some peach and cream roses and antique paper ephemera. A teacup full of tea sits to the left, slightly cropped out.

The Arroyo Verde Fingerless Mitts: A Knitting Pattern

A top-down photo of two handknit socks in gray with teal and purple speckles. They feature columns of coin lace and slipped stitches for lots of texture. The toes are pointing to the left. They're surrounded by pink roses, antique paper ephemera, and a white teacup and saucer full of milky tea.

New Pattern Release: The Onshore Breeze Socks

A top down image of a pair of blue handknit socks that take up the left 2/3 of the frame. Their toes are pointing to the left and they're laid slightly cattywumpus on top of each other. They're surrounded by antique paper ephemera, white roses, a hunk of white spindly coral, and a blue and white teacup full of milky tea.

The Abalone Socks are Updated and Improved

A woman with long blonde hair is turned toward the camera but facing downward. With both hands, she's pulling on a handknit hat with a double brim and flowers made of bobbles.

It’s finally July, which means it’s finally re It’s finally July, which means it’s finally release month for this pattern I’ve been teasing for ages!

One really cool thing about the test knit process: I get to hear from knitters who use different sock knitting methods. I’m a 9” circular fan, myself, and Magic Loop is not my jam, so I was really grateful to have input from experienced Magic Loopers on this one.

Aspect Ratio is out on July 11. Comment “newsletter” and I’ll send you a link to sign up so you don’t miss the announcement!
Over on the blog, I’ve got a new post all about Over on the blog, I’ve got a new post all about Jasperware and how to find affordable pieces to start or grow a collection. My own collection is small, accumulated over the course of a decade. Each piece has a memory attached to it.

Comment “Jasperware” and I’ll DM you a link to read the post. There’s even a roundup of pieces I’ve found online if you’d rather just let me do the hunting for you (I love browsing through online listings, let’s be real).
I was SO CLOSE to finishing this little pair of so I was SO CLOSE to finishing this little pair of socks, and then I realized the numbers weren’t adding up for the instep. I had knit a heel flap that was too narrow.

So it sat in time out for a couple days. Today, I had the patience and energy, so I ripped out the heel and started knitting again.

And anyway, time spent knitting is never wasted.
After months of work on an absolute mess of a patt After months of work on an absolute mess of a pattern and some superhuman patience from my tech editor and an incredible crew of testers, the knitting pattern for the Aspect Ratio Socks is finally ready! It’ll be published on July 11, so mark your calendars and pick your yarn. If you need a reminder, save this post to help you remember!
