A Bee In The Bonnet

Author: Lauren Rad

I'm a former lawyer turned knitwear designer who designs soft, romantic patterns for knitters who want a brief escape from the everyday. When I'm not knitting, you can usually find me puttering about in my rose garden, hosting tea parties, or collecting sea glass at the beach.
A brown woman with black hair is standing against a brick wall. She is wearing a yellow plaid shirt while looking straight at the camera with her head slightly cocked to the side; a brown cowl is draped around her neck.

Revisiting My Very First Knitting Design

Should You Use a Slip Stitch Knitting Edge?

A top-down image a flatlay on a white marble countertop. In the center is a teacup with golden tea on a saucer with purple flowers painted on it. They're surrounded by a glass teapot, white roses, antique books, a sugar bowl, a bag of loose leaf tea, and a purple sweater in progress on two steel knitting needles.

The Laurel Hat is Back and Better Than Ever

Hey Knitter—You’re Being Creative, Too

The Berry Scone Shawl, an asymmetrical triangle with stripes of lace, bobbles, and seed stitch, is draped around a white dressmaker's form. It's knit up in a desaturated burgundy color that's reminiscent of baked berries.

This has been such a fun month, and I hope you’ve enjoyed it as much as I have! I look forward to Socktober every year because it’s a fun excuse to do some deep dives into the wonderful world of sock knitting.

If you had told me back in 2008, when I knit my first socks, that eventually I’d become slightly obsessed with them, well… I probably would have been confused by that information.

But here we are, 17 years later, and I really, really love knitting socks. I love thinking about socks. I hope you’re not sick of hearing about socks from me just yet.
Went to visit my brother and took him to his very Went to visit my brother and took him to his very first LYS (thanks to @yarnphoriapa and little Mabel for making us feel so welcome!). We ate a lot and walked all over and went to the Franklin Institute and wandered through the Free Library. It was just what I needed.
I’ve been knitting socks since 2008 and designin I’ve been knitting socks since 2008 and designing them since 2018. It’s safe to say I’ve knit a lot of socks since then.

Come join me for an online workshop as part of the Knit Happy Summit, where I’ll walk you through all the factors to consider before you buy sock yarn for your next project.

The Knit Happy Summit is an entirely online summit featuring me and 20+ other super knowledgeable designers and teachers sharing their best tips and tricks to make your knitting experience better. It runs from November 6-9, 2025. There’s a free option with some limitations and an expanded pass that gets you tons of great bonuses (including four sock patterns from yours truly).

Curious? Check out my link on my profile page.
When the Santa Rosa Socks are re-released on Frida When the Santa Rosa Socks are re-released on Friday, you’ll see two options for purchasing your copy. One will be the standard solo pattern, but the other will be a bundle of four total patterns.

This bundle includes three other patterns I’ve designed using Camellia Fiber Company’s CFC Merino Sport base. They’re all meant to be soft, squishy, lounge-at-home socks, so they use thicker yarn and are knit at a slightly looser gauge than I’d use for shoe socks.

The bundle is going to be a pretty sweet deal, so be sure to keep an eye out!
